Judge Offers Free Marriage Services

To celebrate Valentine's Day District Judge Elia Cornejo Lopez offered her services to perform weddings at no charge on Monday.

The judge did marry one couple in the morning and several others in the afternoon. One couple have been together for 43 years and although they are married in Mexico and they finally decided to make it official in the states. Lucina and Antonio Fortuna were ecstatic to learn that the judge was offering the free service on such a special day. The fee for a wedding is usually $125 dollars, but for the couple and many others, it was free.

This was the fourth year that Judge Cornejo Lopez provided the free service to Cameron county residents. Although the $125 dollar fee was waived and couples did pay for the marriage licenses.
