In Harlingen, people living at "Los Amigos Del Valle" Living community are relieved that police caught a suspected thief.
Now these residents are getting their stolen property back after several burglaries. Police busted an ex-maintenance man for stealing jewelry, while he was supposed to be handling home repairs. "I hope he doesn't come here again, because he came twice." 81-year old, Vicky Anez says she doesn't want her old maintenance man to ever come back.
Anez says she was shocked at what police say he did. "He stole all my gold jewelry," she says. Harlingen Police busted the man they believe stole all this jewerly from not only Vick, but many other residents too.
35-year old, Ricardo Hernandez is now being charged with six counts of second degree burglary.
His bond is set at 90-thousand dollars. Police caught him after finding the missing jewelry at local pawn shops around town. Two gold bracelets, earrings, a heart-shaped locket, plus 160 dollars in cash are what Anez says suddenly showed up missing. "The jewelry was in this drawer." She's grateful she at least got her prized jewelry back.
Now, she's a little bit more careful. "I lock the door, and I put a chair you know." "I feel if someone's trying to get it'll make a noise, and I'll wake up," Anez says. Vicky says because of this thief, she now has to hide her jewelry in interesting locations, so no one can find her jewelry. We also talked to Miriam Rodriguez with Human Resources at Los Amigos del Valle. She says they followed all proper procedures in hiring Hernandez. Unfortunately, he did not turn out, like they expected. Rodriguez says they hope incidents like this never take place on their property again.
