Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, was taken to Saint Mary's Hospital early this morning.
The baby was born at 4:24pm London time. He weighed eight pounds, six ounces.
The child's official title will be "His Royal Highness Prince", followed by the baby's name, of Cambridge.
In keeping with royal tradition, the Queen's press secretary posted the royal birth annoucement outside of Buckingham Palace. The couple has not yet announced the child's name.

In 2011, the commonwealth passed a law that ensures this baby will fall in the line of succession to the throne, regardless of whether it was a boy or a girl.
The baby boy will be third in line, behind the queen's son, Charles, and his son, William.
With the royal baby will come Retail Regalia. A UK based research company estimates retailers will sell $121 million dollars worth of royal baby-related toys and souvenirs.
