BROWNSVILLE — Is the world really ending at midnight? Or is the Mayan calendar telling us a different story.
"What would you like to tell people who are preparing for the end of the world?
“Stop! There is no need to uh no need to worry cause I can say this because on December 22nd if we are not here I am not going to be held responsible," jokes UTB History Professor Anthony Knapp.
"December 21, 2012 marks the end of the Mayan calendar cycle but some sources think it may be the end of the world we went around Brownsville to see what residents had to say"
We actually found out that the majority of the residents decided to take a religious approach.
"i give other families a suggestion to believe in the word of god and that god has the last word. He is the one that decides when the world ends," says a woman walking in downtown Brownsville.
While most people believe it is not going to happen we did find one lady who says her brother is preparing for the end of the world.
"it's kind of my oldest brother and I’m like really and he's like taking it hard and what are you going to do like asking too and I'm like well were taking it like any other day. Well he already told me he got his Walmart supplies and for like a couple of months and I'm like ugh ok."
She says to each their own just like another non-believer we found on the street
"if something does happen, they're prepared and were not."
Historians say there is a year 2013 instead of the end of the world
"Predictions of people who are engaged in this study it doesn't seem likely to be occuring for many many lifetimes beyond us," says professor Knapp.
