Israeli soldier Sgt. Sean Carmeli laid to rest
An Israeli soldier who grew up in Brownsville and South Padre Island was laid to rest in Northern Israel.
Sgt. Sean Carmeli was killed in combat against Gaza militants on Sunday in the fiercest day of fighting so far in the conflict.
As we reported, Sgt. Carmeli emigrated to Israel when he was 16 years-old.
Fearing only a few would attend his funeral, a soccer club that Carmeli was a fan of posted a photo of him to Facebook asking fans to attend his funeral, thousands answered the call.
Sgt. Carmeli was known as a "Lone Soldier", someone who left their lives and family behind to move to Israel and defend the Jewish state.
