The University of Texas at Brownsville is upgrading its teaching tools by incorporating iPads into its classrooms.

Beginning in Fall 2013, students attending History, Physics and Astronomy and an additional 18 classes will be incorporating the devices.

Dr. Janna Arney, associate provost for faculty and academic affairs said that faculty is ready to innovate and transform the classroom experience using technology.

"We are excited to launch this new initiative and look forward to learning from the students who participate. we have approximately 20 faculty members who are participating this year, and this is just the beginning," Arney said.

iPads, as property of UTB, will be on loan to students taking those classes through the semester.

"Our hope is to have sufficient funding in the future to allow students to keep their iPads," Betsey Price director of the center for teaching and learning said.
