Investigation Opened in La Villa Officer's Shooting of Suspect

Hidalgo County Sheriff's Department is investigating an incident evolving a police officer shooting a fleeing suspect three times. The shooting occurred on Sunday morning at the intersection of Mile One West and Mile 13 North and north of Mercedes. It was reported that the officer was pursuing two suspects involved in stealing beer from a convenience store. While the investigation is ongoing, so far, deputies have not been able to find a weapon which could have been used against the officer. The suspect, 45 year-old Santiago Bruno, was shot three times and he is listed in critical condition and has an extensive criminal history. A second suspect, 26 year-old David Alejandro, was captured on Monday and he also has an extensive criminal record.
