Investigation Continues in DPS Shooting
LA JOYA — The investigation continues in the case of a Department of Public Safety shooting that left two people dead after a high speed chase. The incident happened on Thursday afternoon west of Jara China road on FM 2221 when a DPS helicopter fired shots at a vehicle suspected of carrying drugs, but instead, the vehicle was transporting ten people of which seven of the passengers were illegal immigrants from Guatemala and two of them were killed. According to DPS officers have the right to open fire on a moving vehicle if the sole purpose is to disable it. Following standard procedures, the officer that discharged his weapon is on administrative leave.
