Border Patrol agents say they were just defending themselves when they opened fire this weekend near the Veterans port of entry. Border Patrol officials say the agents saw suspected illegal immigrants attempting to cross the Rio Grande river over to the American side. One agent reported someone on the Mexican side of the river began throwing rocks at him and fired his weapon in defense. A second agent reported that another individual, on the Mexican side, pointed a weapon at him and he shot in self defense. The Mexican Foreign Ministry is accusing the Border Patrol agency of killing a Mexican citizen who's body was found near the river. The FBI is assisting the Border Patrol in the investigation of both agents firing their weapons.
