Immigration bus overturns with 42 occupants
RIO GRANDE VALLEY, TX (DPS) — On Thursday, November 14, 2013 at approximately 2:35A, Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is investigating a one vehilcle crash involving a private commercial bus contracted by the Department of Homeland Security Immigration Customs and Enforcement overturned on the roadway within a overpass area north of Primera Road.
The vehicle had a total of 42 occupants (40 detainees, a driver and a staff employee). All occupants were transported to areas hospitals in Harlingen and Brownsville with minor injuries. No fatalities were reported.
U.S. Highway 77/ I-69E southbound lanes are temporally shut down and vehicular traffic being detoured onto frontage roadways. Currently, Texas Department of Transportation are conducting traffic control management while the Texas Department of Public Safety Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the incident
