Two buildings located along North 77 Sunshine Strip in Harlingen are now being fixed up for immigrant processing and education.

Preliminary plans show one of the buildings will strictly be offices for administration and processing.

The other will contain six classrooms, three medical rooms, and a dining area.

City officials report this will be a day service to help processing and provide education or medical attention to the immigrants, not an overnight facility.

Dave Ralph, Harlingen Public Information Officer, "The attempts we've made to contact Border Patrol or Human Services and other federal agencies, we haven't received a response on anything specific in terms of where they're coming from for transportation and where they might be leaving when they are transported out of Harlingen."

As of right now, the city of Harlingen says there is no timeline as to when the buildings will be in operation.
