UPPER VALLEY- Millions of illegal immigrants have crossed into the U.S. searching for a better life but now it seems that many are giving up on the American dream. According to the Homeland Security Department, the amount of arrests along the border has dropped significantly. The last time the numbers were this low was in 1970. One local organization says it knows why.

Martha Sanchez., coordinator for LUPE,  says the main reason people flock to the U.S. is for job opportunities. Since the economy took a hit many immigrants are choosing to stay put. Sanchez also blames the drop on anti-immigration sentiments. She says its worse than ever. Even though the number of arrests are low, the immigration issue is still considered one of the biggest problems in the nation. Sanchez says the need for immigration reform is clear.
