BROWNSVILLE, TX (KVEO NEWSCENTER 23) — The International Boundary and Water Commission (IBWC) has hired experts from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to do a geotechnical study on the U.S. Rio Grande flood control levee near Brownsville.
The study is being done after cracks were detected near the top section part of the levee and several feet from the river. The cracks pose no immediate flood risk and were discovered during a levee inspection.
The study will determine the cause of the cracking and possible repair solutions by October of 2014.
