After a very long wait, many communities devastated by Hurricane Dolly, will now get the proper funding to fix their homes, Joangel Concepcion has more.
It's been over two years since Hurricane Dolly ripped her way through the area and still many communities need assistance. The Lower Rio Grande Valley Development Counsel has debated long and hard as to where $106.9 million dollars in federal money should go. After a much anticipated wait, the counsel made their decision on Thursday. All $106.9 million dollars from the Department of Housing will spread over three counties in the Valley.
In hopes of helping families and communities rebuild from damages left behind by Hurricane Dolly. City Commissioner Eddy Gonzalez was a major contributor to the counsel's final decision. The money will be used for housing repairs, new homes and even relocation. This is the largest amount of federal money ever awarded to the lower Rio Grande Valley and in hopes of finally getting the communities back to normal.
