The Tip-O-Tex trailriders mount up for their annual big ride across the Valley.
I thought I wasn't going to make it. I said 'nah I'm not into horses . Cmon lets try it. I said. Ok let me try it. And I loved it.
For four days the riders of Tip-O-Tex ride all the way from Port Isabel to Mercedes. It's a four day ride but for them its worth it as they get a chance to bond with their family and friends.
I get to enjoy my grandson, I love him a lot. You give him a hug. My baby boy
Joe Montez learned about the big ride from his brother. Now he's passed it on to his 14-year-old grandson Domingo Gonzales.
I try to get him out of there. Put something else in his mind. rather than getting in trouble roaming the streets of Brownsville.
The ride has had an interesting effect on Domingo.
I don't like video games. I don't like being inside. I like outdoor things.
Teaching him about history,
Back then we didn't have no cars. And all we had was horses. It is kind of hard to ride because your back hurts. And it makes me think. How did the people ride a horse every day?
Yet bringing a smile to his face
I feel like a real cowboy and bringing a smile to his grandfather, as well.
