The Department of Public Safety is investigating a case of homemade spikes being used by drug smugglers against local law enforcement.
It happened on Tuesday evening in Havana, a colonia near La Joya, where U.S. Border Patrol agents saw a suspicious car and tried pulling it over. The driver refused and a speed chase began. Police noticed nail spikes on the road near the route where the chase happened. Police are not sure how many other drivers might have driven over the spikes and have damaged their cars.
Troopers did find the car they were chasing near a ditch off of Patricio Perez street along with 95 pounds of marijuana inside it. Authorities believe the driver and passengers swam back into Mexico.
