Friday, July 1, 2011 - 8:23am

For many home less people in the upper valley who think they don't have a place to stay, they should think again.

Salvation Army Resources Director Juan Gomez says, "We're open through it all. If it's hot outside, we're open. If it's cold outside, we're open. If it's raining outside, we're open."

The Salvation Army in McAllen is the only shelter in Hidalgo County and thanks to them many families wont be left out in the rain.

Twenty year old Flor Guerrero is staying at the shelter.  Without the their help, she'd have no where to go.

" It's every meaning of the word shelter for me. It's a friendly environment. It's a very secure place from the cold and the downpour and I feel great being here," she says.

The shelter provides many families in Hidalgo County with a place to stay and a hot meal.
Officials try their best to provide them with the basics.

The upper valley hasn't seen consecutive days of rain for a very long time do the demand for basic items is high..
Shelter officials tell us they are accepting any kind of donations.
