Homeland Security Secretary Napolitano visits Brownsville
BROWNSVILLE, TEXAS (KVEO NEWSCENTER 23) — Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano is spending her final days in office speaking with Mexico's leaders starting in the Valley with a visit to Matamoros, Mexico and the City of Brownsville. She spoke at a press conference in Brownsville on Tuesday afternoon.
After meeting with Mexico's Secretary of Interior Miguel Angel Osorio Chong and local law enforcement officials in Matamoros, MX to discuss border security operations.
The secretary signed an agreement with Chong which will allow the U.S. and Mexico to share high tech communication technologies.
Napolitano says this will offer a greater way to share secure information between law enforcement making our border more secure, the secretary also mentioned the arrest of the Zeta cartel leader, "I want to make sure to congratulate Mexico on the apprehension of Miguel Trevino 40, that's a big capture someone that's been the Zeta face for a long time, one of the most violent individuals so that was a great capture."
The secretary travels to Mexico City where she will meet Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto, you may recall, Napolitano has announced she will resign her position in September and she has served as secretary for about four and half years.
