High-speed police chase ends in shots fired, suspect taken to hospital
San Diego, CA — The suspect in a high-speed car chase through San Diego is in critical condition following a police shooting. The hour long pursuit started when police say they tried to pull the driver over for talking on his cell phone while behind the wheel, Rielle Creighton has video of the chaos that erupted as police tried to take into custody.
When it ends it's something like a scene from a movie, police deploy spikes as we see the suspect come to a slow creep.
It's about 9:30 a.m. in this neighborhood Frankie Martinez, Witness, "I went on the ground. That's what I did because you never know."
But bullets and chaos say police first flying back on Monday in Mountain View police say two people shot there and the suspect was wanted in connection.
What sparked the pursuit through the city, the interstate and residential neighborhood at speed s of up to 60 mph with wheels already flattened.
At some point he lets his passenger out and keeps on going.
In what would bring him to an end in this Mount Hope neighborhood, also what looks like could have hurt other officers.
The video appearing to show what could be officers in the direct line of fire of the bullets.
Its over with the suspect on the ground and covered in blood.
Frankie Martinez, "Give him a chance or something, but they never did. They started shooting at him like crazy. And that's it. I went on the ground. At that moment, in my mind, I thought he was dead already."
Police say the suspect raised a gun at officers and fearing for their safety, four officers opened fire at the suspect in the vehicle.
The suspect was taken to the hospital and is listed in critical condition.
