Hidalgo Sheriff's Office recognized with "Best Practices" award
HIDALGO COUNTY, TEXAS (KVEO NEWSCENTER 23) — The Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office was awarded with a 2013 County Best Practices Award by the Texas Association of Counties Leadership Program.
County commissioners will be recognizing the achievements of the department at it's meeting on Tuesday, April 30th.
Hidalgo county was one of six county programs to receive the award, and received its honor for the Sheriff's Office "Domestic Abuse Intervention Specialist" program.
The program, devised by deputies on the force, helps in reaching out to victims and perpetrators of domestic abuse by finding a way to intervene, reach out to victims and prevent abusers from reoffending.
This is the second time in three years that the Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office has received this award.
The ceremony, to honor the department, is on April 30, at 9:30 a.m. at Edinburg City Hall located at 415 W. University Drive.
