Just after 11 p.m. Sunday night, a group of men broke into a home on Stites road in Donna. They came in armed with long barreled firearms calling for the homeowner.

"The home owner Mr. Jesus Leal came out with his wife, Guadalupe. They were told to hit the floor. Before both of them hit the floor, Mr. Leal was shot at least one time in the head," said Sheriff Lupe Trevino, Hidalgo County.

The men then turned and ran out of the home, peppering the house with gunshots as they fled. Jesus Leal was taken the hospital, where he later died.

Investigators said this crime points in one direction.

"That they were here, for one reason and one reason only, and that was to come and assassinate Mr. Leal," said Trevino.

Investigating is the now permanent armed robbery task force.

The three to four suspects are considered extremely dangerous, but Trevino believes the public isn't in immediate danger.

"You have to keep in mind in this particular case, is that they came here to do one thing and one thing only. And that is come make a hit on Mr. Leal," said Trevino.

The suspects didn't take demand drugs or money, nor did they take anything from the home.
