The Hidalgo County Sheriff's Department says they will continue to investigate an incident which many have been calling a hate crime.

21-year old UTPA student A.J. Chapa is still recovering from head trauma injuries he suffered when he fell off of a table.

The sheriff's department says it happened near Monte Cristo and Ware roads on Sunday.
Sheriff Treviño says the student was attending an off campus fraternity party and was dancing on top of a table with two other men when he fell and hit his head on a concrete slab.

But many are saying the injuries appear to be too extensive to be accidental.

Accusations and rumors have run rampant throughout social media sites since the incident, and the sheriff says at this time he believes it was accidental, but it's still under investigation.
