Hidalgo County Sheriff receiving threats in Guerrero case
HIDALGO COUNTY, TEXAS (KVEO NEWSCENTER 23) — Hidalgo County Sheriff Lupe Trevino is speaking out about the threats he's received following a case involving former Hidalgo County Clerk Omar Guerrero. On Tuesday, three other suspects were charged in court for helping Guerrero flee to Mexico, NewsCenter 23's Michael Lopez reports on this story.
The search continues for Omar Guerrero who is wanted on sexual assault charges on a 15 year-old girl and this isn't the first time Guerrero faces charges with the law.
Three suspects were court, facing a judge for hindering prosecution and helping Guerrero flee to Mexico. The Hidalgo County Sheriff's Department says they're concerned because Guerrero is a threat to minor aged girls.
This case has even triggered threats to Sheriff Trevino and he says he's taking them seriously, "We are taking these threats very serious, Guerrero has ties to Mexico of a lot of criminal elements there, we are taking these seriously."
Sheriff Trevino didn't say who the threats were from, but he did say the source said, "Just wait to see what you have coming." Again the Sheriff says the department is taking those threats seriously, "The threats say they will bring in people from Mexico who are going to take care of what they need to take care of."
Meanwhile, as for the three who were in court for aiding Guerrero flee, they were given a bail of $250,000 dollars.
