Hidalgo County to hold workshop on voting centers
HIDALGO COUNTY, TEXAS (KVEO NEWSCENTER 23) — The county is hosting a community workshop, with Lubbock County officials, on a discussion about implementing vote centers or countywide polling places on Wednesday.
The county is moving forward with plans to place vote centers which would give registered voters an option of voting at any polling location instead of their assigned precinct location.
The Texas Legislature authorized a pilot program, in 2005, and Lubbock County implemented it in 2006. Hidalgo County Commissioners approved the creation of a committee to oversee the process to develop vote centers this year and invited Lubbock County officials to share their experience at today's meeting.
