Hidalgo county plans to establish vote centers to giver residents  a more convenient way of voting during elections.

The voting centers, or countywide polling places, would give registered voters the option of voting at any polling location on Election Day instead of having to vote at their precinct polling locations.

The Texas Legislature, in 2005, authorized a pilot program to permit vote centers and this year Hidalgo County Commissioners approved the creation of a committee to develop vote centers with its first meeting scheduled on Tuesday, April 16 at 734 N. Breyfogle in Mission.

The public is welcomed to attend the meeting which is scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m.
