Hidalgo County Sheriff Lupe Trevino wants to have breakfast with you.  That's why he's going on tour to different coffee shops around the county.

"I'm here to have a face to face conversation with the people," Trevino said.  "I want to know what their issues are, what their concerns are."

The event is know as coffee with the sheriff. Folks came to the first one at Keno's Cafe in Weslaco to find out how he's tackling the problem in their neighborhood.

"We learned a lot of answers to a lot of questions that we had concerning guns and concerning the gang problem around here," said Perla Munoz, a Mission resident who attended the event. "So I thought that was very educational."

Today's session was the first in what the sheriff said is a once a week meeting with the community. He doesn't know where the next one will be yet, but says there will be a one week notice before each one.

"We're going to hit every town in Hidalgo County. Every coffeeshop that accepts us," Trevino said. "They want to ask the hard question, I'm here for the hard question."

True to form, the sheriff took all the questions tossed his way in the hour-long discussion on crime, personal security and neighborhood safety.

"Without the help of the community, there is absolutely no way that we are going to find any success in our work. We have to have a real strong partnership," Trevino said.
