It's the number one littered item in America and there's clearly a problem right here in the City of Brownsville with discarded cigarette butts.

Healthy Communities of Brownsville is trying to get the word out about proper disposal of cigarette butts and Executive Director Rose Trimmer says that the environmental toxins can cause problems for our community on several levels, "Those will float very easily into our drains and into our resacas and PUB, our water source, will have to deal with that whether they clog up the machine or they go through the machinery."

Healthy Communities is trying to convince business to purchase cigarette disposal containers so that smokers have a place to toss the toxic trash. Those can be picked up for a $55 dollar donation at Healthy Communities Brownsville.
