A new study finds men with type 2 diabetes aren't getting benefits from HDL or good cholesterol.
HDL carries bad cholesterol out of the arteries and helps protect blood vessels and the heart, so you want to have high levels, but a small European study shows different. It showed HDL in men with type 2 diabetes lack the protective effect and when the diabetics were given 1,500 milligrams of extended release Niacin for three months. Their HDL levels increased and its protective functions improved.
