Having a happy outlook on life could help your heart.

Researchers at the University of Pittsburgh studied data collected from nearly 100,000 postmenopausal women of which none of the women had cancer or heart disease at the start of the study. They found optimistic women nearly 10% less likely to develop heart disease and had a 14% lower risk of death overall.

Women who were highly cynical were 16% more likely to die during the eight year study period. They also found optimist more likely to be younger, live in the Western U.S., be employed and have higher incomes. They were less likely to have health conditions like diabetes and high cholesterol.
