Here in the Valley diabetes is a major health concern and in fact, we experience twice the national rate of diabetes.
The American Diabetes Association has put a dollar amount on what that costs the economy. Across the United States, it is more than a fifth of a trillion dollars. That's the drag on the economy that diabetes has according to a new study. The $218 billion figure includes lost productivity, disability and early retirement as well as medical care costs, amputations and hospitalizations.
