Make-A-Wish Rockin Rides Car Show

By Mark Nino

Valley people making a big difference for children with life threatening medical conditions.

Hundreds turned out for the Rockin Ride Car Show at Red Robin; a fundraiser for Make-A-Wish children. Folks could check out classic, antique and the newest vehicles in the Pharr restaurant parking lot and for those who ate a burger at Red Robin, a dollar was donated to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Eberardo and Norma Torres lost their daughter to a brain stem tumor 4 1/2 years ago. All they wanted were prayers for Alyssa Marie's recovery, but the foundation gave Alyssa something she had long dreamed for a black horse, like Black Beauty and that gift brought light into the La Joya girls soon to end life.

Don Burns from Burns Motors was instrumental in helping to get Alyssa's new companion. In fact, Mr. Burns matched all the money raised bringing it to a total of $14,500 dollars, at this 3rd annual Red Robin Rockin event, doubling what was donated through food and raffle ticket sales. This means 3 children in the Rio Grande Valley, with life threatening illnesses, will see their wishes come true.

You can help by attending the foundation's 9th Annual Glass Slipper Ball on Saturday, May 17th at the McAllen Convention Center. Please call at 956.686-WISH for tickets or to donate money.
