Hazardous Algal Bloom Training to Delve into the Mysteries of Red Tide
SOUTH PADRE ISLAND - This morning a harmful Algal Bloom training was held at the University of Texas Pan American Coastal Studies Lab at South Padre Island. Educators shared their experiences with red tide and taught volunteers how to collect, identify and count red tide cells.
A Corpus Christi doctor was also on site and revealed new research findings on Brevetoxin the red tide toxin concentrations that he believes could be the cause of some recent animal deaths locally.
The training was one of the three courses requiered for volunteers to become first responders to events like harmful Algal Blooms and Marine Mammal Strandings.
