Harlingen Ranks 6th Lowest in Cost of Living

A research group in Virginia is calling Harlingen as the cheapest place to live in the United States.

The Council of Community and Economic Research took statistics from last year and compared them to 339 other places in the country in terms of housing, gas, groceries and transportation. They found Harlingen's cost of living to be about 18% below the national average. While Harlingen is ranked 18% lower in cost of living it's ranked 28% lower in income with the average income being below $32,000 dollars. The most expensive place in the country is Manhattan, New York with the cost of living is more than twice the national average.
