It's the weekend before the Fourth, and the City of Harlingen is preparing for America's independence with its own "Freedom Fest".

This is the second year of Freedom Fest and it will be celebrated on two nights: July 4 and 5.

Some of the highlights include live music, games for kids, rides, 60 food vendors, a comic book expo and even karate lesson.

This year, a classic car show and a "Pet Paw-rade" will be featured.

Free fireworks are scheduled for 9:30 p.m.

Freedom Fest will take place at Lon C. Hill Park on both nights.

"For the music and live entertainment, for the vendors, everything - the rides and games, it's all in one spot," said City of Harlingen public information officer Dave Ralph. "And it's free parking too, very easy access to the park...we're expecting probably a few thousand people to show up."

On both nights, Freedom Fest will begin at 4 p.m. and end at 11 p.m.
