Harlingen Officials Appoint Interim Police Chief

Wednesday at the Harlingen city council meeting was packed. It was standing room only. City leaders appointed Michael Kester a captain to police chief in February. City manager Carlos Yerena says that chief Daniel Castillo chose to resign and captain Kester will take over on February 15th.

"In a sense he will be acting as a police chief until we find a permanent police chief."

Commissioner Kori Marra says that the police was forced out.

"Its not a resignation it's a removal."

For an hour during public comment residents from Harlingen gave their opinion about police chief Daniel Castillo.

"We are not saying he is a Christian man or bad man, we are saying the department head was not doing his job that is why he is out."

"He's been nothing but wonderful to the citizens and to me personally."

"We need Danny Castillo as our police Chief.
