Harlingen Fire Department Handing Out Free Smoke Detectors
HARLINGEN — The fire department is giving away three hundred free smoke detectors to people living in Harlingen after receiving a grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
Firefighters say that anybody living within the city limits is invited to call the department to get their free smoke detector. Firefighters will even install it free of charge for those residents with the detectors having a value of around $15 dollars each. Firefighter Richard Alvarez stated, "We have been setting up appointments to go install them at people's residence. It is open to anybody within the city limits whether you own a home mobile home or travel trailer we are offering them to everybody."
Mr. Alvarez says fifteen homeowners have already called in to receive their free smoke detectors leaving two hundred to distribute.
