Harlingen employee arrested for embezzling nearly $48,000 in city money

A Harlingen city employee is arrested for theft after evidence surfaces of her embezzling nearly $48,000 dollars.

On Tuesday, July 15th a detective with the Harlingen PD met with a representative of the City of Harlingen regarding an internal theft by an employee identified as Rachael Diana Olivarez, 37.

Through an investigation evidence surfaced that Olivarez had embezzled nearly $48,000 in city money between the months of November 15, 2013 and July 3, 2014.

Evidence was provided and an arrest warrant was issued for Olivarez who was arrested on Wednesday, July 16th at a residence located on the 2500 block of Emerald Lake Drive.

Olivarez's theft charge was upgraded to a felony degree due to her being a public servant during the commission of the theft and her bond was set at $75,000.
