The Harlingen CISD Board of Trustees approved it's child nutrition program allowing all students to receive a free breakfast and lunch.

The board approved the Community Eligibility  program at it's regular meeting on May 13th with the program being implemented on August of 2014.

The program will provide breakfast and lunch every day of the school year for over 18,500 students enrolled at Harlingen CISD. The goal was to provide students with nutritionally sound meals at no cost.

Under the Community Eligibility program's reimbursement formula, the program is part of the Healthy, Hunger –Free Kids Act of 2010 which allows high poverty schools to feed more students.

Harlingen CISD was able to utilize the program due to 77.5% of its students being classified as economically disadvantaged with more than 75% receiving free or reduced lunch.
