BROWNSVILLE - On Wednesday morning at Hanna high school, the organization named Down by the Border, was there to greet students with a Homecoming gift.

The organization started out as a group for children with Down Syndrome, but wanted to help any child with a disability. Their latest effort, the Homecoming Project, gave every graduating special needs Senior's at with a mum to applaud them for their accomplishments. It was an emotional event for the president of the organization, Dolores Zarate, who started Down by the Border in honor of her daughter who also has special needs. Mrs. Zarate stated, "You have the most elite of athletes that were given the best of abilities, physically, and they will be presenting the Homecoming mums to their peers in their special needs class."

The organization will host their sixth annual Children's Festival on October 29th. Volunteers interested in helping with future events can visit: www.downbytheborder.org
