BROWNSVILLE - A leader of the Gulf cartel was in federal court on Tuesday and waived his right to a detention hearing and an examining trial and the judge ordering he be held without bail.

Jose Luis Zuniga Hernandez, also known as Comandante Wicho, faced U.S. Magistrate Ronald Morgan after being detained by Border Patrol agents on Friday near Santa Maria. Zuniga allegedly ran the Gulf cartel in Matamoros, Mexico after the groups leader, Ezequiel Cardenas Guillen, was killed.
