Severed hand leads to discovery of man who died in fall from TV tower.

A man has died after apparently falling from an Ohio television transmission tower.

Investigators from the Cincinnati police department said witnesses discovered a severed hand near the corner of Rohs and Warner streets Sunday morning.

The hand was the first of several disturbing discoveries.

"The more we looked into it, we discovered a torso up by the radio tower," said Sgt. Jeff Gramke with the Cincinnati Police Homicide Unit.

Police said they linked the severed hand to a break-in at WLWT's transmitter.

They said it appeared the man was attempting to climb the tower when he died.

Investigators said they didn't know whether the man was electrocuted or fell.

A WLWT engineer, who was called to the transmitter to allow officers access to the area, described a gruesome scene at the transmitter and that the man's body had been dismembered.

The coroner was called to the scene.

A three-block area was blocked off as investigators searched for remains.

Police said there were body parts scattered throughout a wooded area around the tower.

A couple camping in those woods said they heard a loud, crumbling noise early Sunday.

"I had no idea ... until I saw ... a piece of what they were talking about. And that really ... made me feel pretty sick," said Joe Weber.

Police were able to locate some of the man's personal effects, but not any form of identification.

One person was being questioned by police but was not under arrest.
