Grinches Steal Christmas
Couple busted after stealing dozens of Christmas gifts from Boston area homes.
Police say a man and woman were arrested Tuesday for stealing over 100 packages from Boston area homes.
“We like to have a feel-good story at Christmastime. This is one of them,” said Deputy Chief Paul Upton of the Somerville Police Department.
Police were on the lookout for suspects who are accused of stealing packages off people’s doorsteps.
“Some alert citizen notified them that they observed the male and female occupant of this vehicle taking packages from a porch in Medford near the Somerville line. They caught the plate number, called that in,” said Upton.
When officers found the couple in the car they noticed boxes marked with different names and addresses.
They arrested 27-year-old Manuel Sheehan and 26-year-old Kristen Casey.
Officials said a search through the couple’s home turned up nearly 100 stolen items.
Sheehan and Casey were in court on Wednesday.
Casey had no comment leaving court, but Sheehan’s family defended him.
“It was a desperate thing on his part and I hope people can forgive him and have the heart to forgive my Godchild,” said one woman.
“I’m sorry for all the victims that my brother has caused you all tragedy,” said Sheehan’s brother.
Investigators are working to return the packages to their rightful owners before Christmas.
Police have already matched many packages to their rightful owners.
“In this particular case we’ve got the early tip on this suspect vehicle, we were able to stop it and we saved Christmas for at least a dozen people,” said Upton.
