GRAPHIC WARNING: Houston teen feels victimized after a video of beating
HOUSTON, TEXAS (CNN) — A Houston teenager was beaten by one of her good friends and it was caught on camera. She feels she's being victimized again because the video has gone viral.
The punch seen at the beginning of this video is disturbing to watch and it only gets worse.
"I was just in shock. I was like, 'Oh my God. Did she really do this?' You're supposed to be my close friend," said victim Shamichael Manuel.
Manuel says she never saw the hit coming.
"We were talking in school earlier that day. She made it seem like there was nothing wrong with her," said Manuel.
Manuel believes that she was set up by a former 16-year-old friend and a group of other girls all over a boy.
"It is hurting and crushing to me," said Manuel.
The cell phone video posted online after the beat down has gone viral and Sharkeisha, the girl seen punching and kicking, is getting worldwide notoriety. Her name has even become a popular hashtag and internet meme.
"The video's just going and going. They're making jokes, and they're taunting. They're glorifying the girl Sharkeisha, but they're taunting my daughter at the same time," said mother, Olevia Henderson.
Henderson says her daughter is being victimized again and again.
"I was in the grocery store, and the girl was checking out my groceries. The baggers were just laughing and talking about it. I said that's my daughter in that video, and their whole expression changed," said Henderson.
In just a week, Manuel has recovered from her black eye and busted lip, but knowing people are laughing, sharing the video at her expense, has made it impossible to completely heal.
"I'm going to have to deal with this for the rest of my life. How would you feel if that was your daughter or your son and it happened to them, how would you feel?" said Henderson.
