Grand Jury Indicts Former Officers of Disbanded Panama Unit
HIDALGO COUNTY — A federal grand jury has indicted four law enforcement officers in an alleged illegal drug escorting. The grand jury returned a six count indictment on Wednesday against the four officers on the now disbanded Panama Unit drug task force. Among those indicted are Jonathon Trevino, son of Hidalgo County Sheriff Lupe Trevino, and Alexis Espinosa the son of Hidalgo Police Chief Rudy Espinoza, Fabian Rodriguez and Gerardo Mendoza Duran and all four are currently free on bond. If convicted, punishment for each of the four could range all the way up to life in prison.
