Grand jury indicts additional officers of disband Panama Unit
HIDALGO COUNTY, TEXAS (KVEO NEWS CENTER 23) — More charges were filed on law enforcement officers who were members of the former tasks force called the Panama Unit on Wednesday.
A federal grand jury handed down an indictment saying that not only the four former officers, who were previously charged with conspiring to possess and distribute cocaine, but that additional three men have been indicted with similar charges and including intent to distribute cocaine, marijuana and meth.
In January, Jonathan Trevino, Alexis Espinoza, Fabian Rodriguez and Gerardo Mendoza Duran were charged, but on Wednesday former Hidalgo county sheriff deputies Salvador Joel Arguello, Claudio Alberto Mata and Eric Michael Alcantar were also charged. Many federal law enforcement agencies continue to investigate the case and all the accused face up to life in prison and up to a $10 million dollar fine.
