Hidalgo County is looking to hire a voting machines expert to look into possible malfunctioning during this year's election. A grand jury approved hiring an expert to examine the machines used this month during the primary election.

District Attorney Rene Guerra says the expert will be paid from money seized during gambling investigations. Six losing candidates from the March 4th election have filed challenges on the results.

"If the machines or the programmer were to be determined that they were improperly programmed...All hell would break loose," Guerra said. "All hell would break loose. Not only the presidential election, but all elections."

Guerra says he wants to reach out to the voting machines experts this week. He says examining the machines should be finshed in four weeks.
