GPS System Installed In Sheriff Department Units
CAMERON COUNTY, TEXAS (KVEO NEWS CENTER 23) — All Cameron County Sheriff Deputies units are now equipped with a high tech GPS system called Mobile link live.
The sheriff says this will improve efficiency when deputies respond to emergencies.
"Quicker service to the person that calls the dispatchers, they follow the map and know which unit is closed to that call." Said Sheriff Omar Lucio.
The sheriff says this system is all about the safety for his deputies.
"We cover 1,267 square miles and they are out there in the middle of nowhere, there are no street lights by having the GPS, it tells us exactly where the unit is stopped during the day or night time and to assist the officer."
Supervisors and dispatchers at the sheriff's department can see how fast the deputy is going.
It also allows them to see a streaming camera from inside the deputies unit.
The entire system cost $378,000 and was paid through a state grant.
