Workers closed up the gates Tuesday at the Palo Alto National Historic Battlefield.
Orlando Garza is an archeologist at the park.

"With the government shut down all the national park service’s are closing, so we are a national park service unit, we are closed for the day, we just came to shutdown. I am technically on furlough today; I had to shut down the computers, our office, and secure the area while we are on furlough."said Garza.

J.J. Greenwood is from Kansas City and on vacation. He was hoping to take advantage of some site seeing while in town.

"Drove here and it is closed down, and that is too bad I don't mind saying our politicians, it is so sad, that this is what they have to do, as far as I am concerned it’s all about their egos."

Greenwood has the this message to the government.

"Do me a favor and get our politicians back in shape, will you, so they are doing things for the people and not themselves."

Garza is also hoping this government shutdown stops soon, so the public can enjoy to the park, and also because they have a major event next week.

"We are going to be presenting six years of field work we have done, we are bringing archeologists from as far as away as the United Kingdom, a couple from Mexico, looking at 16th century battles, and a bunch of 19th century battles, we are doing that Friday next week in town, which could be impacted by the government shutdown."said Garza.
