The Gladys Porter Zoo released a statement in reference to a Black Bear escaping from its cage.

On Monday, August 4th at around 11 a.m. a male black bear climbed out of his exhibit, near the amphitheater, alarming some visitors.

As per the zoo's protocol, zoo visitors were placed in a secure area and a lock-down was implemented until the bear was safely placed back into his cage.

This is the first time a black bear has escaped the exhibit and zoo officials will have the exhibit closed until modifications are complete.
