In wake of the lion attack at a California wild animal park, NewsCenter 23 checked with officials at the Gladys Porter Zoo to see what their policies are in terms of handling big cats.

The zoo has two lions on exhibit and they say they follow very strict rules when it comes to contact with the lions as Zoo Director Jerry Stone comments, "None of these cats have the wild out of them, what people think is these people are all tame. They're not tame they're still wild we do not work with them." Mr. Stone displayed the area where the lions are caged and mentioned that the animals are caged when they clean the outside exhibit. If a big cat does need special attention or to be moved, sedation is used as a precautionary measure.
